Fortuna to challenge for title with yet another win
Fortuna Sittard have sold Perr Schuurs to Ajax, but have welcomed him back on loan for the remainder of the season. The side have bought Andre Vidigal and signed a young talent in Lazar Kojic to replace Schuurs as per next season.
Jong Ajax have a large array of players available. Damil Dankerlui has moved to Willem II in the Eredivisie.

Fortuna Sittard’s season has been nothing short of sensational. Everything has been a positive ever since the start of the campaign and the arrival of manager Sunday Oliseh. The side are topping the table (although second-placed NEC Niijmegen, who are only one point behind them, have a game in hand) and they have scored an impeccable 51 goals in their 19 games. The club were close to being bankrupt on several occasions, but with investors in the background and Perr Schuurs’s sale to Ajax, the sun is now shining in Sittard. The team have won all of their last six league games, with their last outing ending in a 3-1 home win against Jong Utrecht.
Jong Ajax cannot be promoted to the Netherlands’ top flight, but they can showcase a large amount of talent. Players like Mitchell Bakker, Carel Eiting, Matteo Cassierra, Dennis Johnsen, Che Nunnely, Noa Lang and Kaj Sierhuis are bound to have decent careers, if not in the first team of Ajax then definitely elsewhere. Jong Ajax have used well over 30 players, including occasional first team players to build up match fitness – but this does see them in a three-horse race with Fortuna Sittard and NEC challenging for the title. Jong Ajax are unbeaten in their last five league games, thrashing lowly Volendam 7-0 at home before the winter break.
Fortuna have won eight of their ten home games, losing only to NEC Nijmegen. Jong Ajax hold the best away record in the league, winning six of their ten games, so they will be tough opponents without a doubt. I can see the home side winning this, but it will be a tight affair.
Five of the last six encounters between these teams have seen an odd amount of total goals, with four of them ending with exactly three. I’m going with odd goals once again.
Fortuna Sittard have only won one of their four home matches against Jong Ajax, but that victory was an impressive 5-2 success last season. However, Jong Ajax claimed a 4-2 home win in Amsterdam in August.
