Aitor Karanka takes charge of his first Nottingham Forest game this weekend. The new boss could be without Daryl Murphy while Chris Cohen and Jack Hobbs remain on the sidelines with injuries for Nottingham Forest.
Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa could be without Christopher Samba, Glenn Whelan, Scott Hogan, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Jordan Lyden. Meanwhile, striker Jonathan Kodjia will miss the weekend’s trip to Nottingham with an ankle injury.
Nottingham Forest
Suspended: None
Doubtful: Daryl Murphy (knock)
Injured/unavailable: Chris Cohen (knee), Jack Hobbs (back)
Aston Villa
Suspended: None
Doubtful: Christopher Samba (hamstring), Glenn Whelan (ill); Scott Hogan, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Jordan Lyden (all ankle)
Injured/unavailable: Jonathan Kodjia (ankle)
Nottingham Forest’s caretaker manager Gary Brazil inspired the club to a memorable 4-2 home win over the mighty Arsenal in the FA Cup last Sunday. However, the Reds have not won in the Championship since beating lowly Bolton at the City Ground in early December. Only 23rd-placed Birmingham have lost more than Forest in the second tier up until now.  The team drew 0-0 away at Leeds in their last league outing.
Aston Villa were on fire in their previous league match, thumping fellow promotion-hopefuls Bristol City 5-0 at Villa Park. That was Villa’s second successive league victory having won at the Riverside Stadium a few days before. However, the Villans were shocked at home by Peterborough in the FA Cup last Saturday.
Nottingham Forest will be buoyed by last weekend’s win over the Gunners, and I fancy them to follow that up by claiming a draw in this one. Going with Nottingham Forest on the +1 market makes sense here.
Nottingham Forest have only drawn two games all season. Last time out in the league, the Reds held Leeds to a goalless draw at Elland Road. Meanwhile, Aston Villa have drawn 0-0 on four occasions. Therefore, back zero goals to be scored at the City Ground here.
Nottingham Forest have won just one of their last ten league games against Aston Villa.
Prediction: Nottingham Forest to win
